Kiko Midnight Siren Collection Review and Swatches

Kiko Midnight Siren Collection Review and Swatches

This autumn, Italian cosmetics brand, Kiko Makeup Milano, have launched a limited edition collection that draws inspiration from the night to create an alluring and mysterious makeup range.  Kiko say that this is a new range of products that are ‘beautifully enriched with pearls and iridescent highlighters, reflecting the sheen of the ocean, the reflection of the moon and that mystical, magical starlight.’  Sounds pretty epic doesn’t it?

The Midnight Siren collection* features a skincare item and plenty of makeup for the face, eyes and lips.  The colours are perfect for this time of the year as they’re tones that are deeper and will see you right through to winter months.

Everything about this collection is stunning, right down to the packaging which is a sort of deep purple with some pieces having a petrol effect where it looks green and blue in different lights.  Even the outer cardboard packaging is beautiful!

The skincare item in the collection is the Moonlight Oil Serum which has a fabulous blend of ingredients including Camelina Stavita Oil which is one of the richest sources of Omega 3 and moisturising Vitamin E which helps to hydrate the skin while improving tone and texture.  This is definitely a product for the dry skinned girls amongst us as it is a luxurious feeling skincare elixir that combines the performance of a powerful anti-ageing serum with opulence and deep hydration of an oil.

Our skin tends to be really put through its paces at this time of the year, especially in the UK where the temperature starts to drop and we start turning our central heating on.  These changes in our environment can leave our skin feeling dry and looking dull so an oil like this is a great option as it helps to deeply moisturise and hydrate the skin while reducing dryness and restoring elasticity.

This oil is far too heavy for me to wear during the day or under makeup but its a lovely treat to apply to my skin at night so that it can sink into my skin while I sleep.

One of my favourite pieces in the whole collection has to be the Midnight Siren Face Brush.  It is a densely packed, fluffy kabuki brush with the softest synthetic bristles I’ve ever felt.  It feels so gentle and soft on the skin, making it a great option to use to apply your face powder as you can sweep and buff it into the skin with ease.  I love the gorgeous zip up pouch that comes with it.  Not only does it look great but it also stops any excess powder from dirtying the inside of my handbags.

Another stand out from the collection for me has to be the Silk Pearl Illuminating Bronzer which is available in two shades, 01 Radiating Honey and 02 Irresistible Sienna.  I have the latter.

This bronzing powder is made up of three different shades, a deeper bronze, a lighter tan bronze and a highlighter, which can be used individually or blended together.  The result is illuminating and perfecting on the skin with just the right amount of bronze for all year round use.  It blends effortlessly into the skin with a fluffy brush and has a soft focus, satin finish, leaving my complexion looking healthy and lightly sun kissed.  The powder is finely milled and has very minimal fall out.

The only thing that I don’t like about this product is the packaging.  For all it is pretty, as it is enclosed in a compact with a mirror inside that is designed to reflect a Tahitian pearl, it is completely impractical.  The sheer size of this product means that I’d be unable to take it with me when I’m out and about or travelling and as I stay away from home a lot, practicality for travelling is something that I look for in a product.

However where they have got it right with the packaging is with the Kiko Shape and Shimmer Eyebrow and Highlighter Pencil.  There are 3 shades in the line, I have 03 which has a cool to mid toned brown eyebrow pencil on one end and a pink shimmery champagne highlighter on the other side.

The darker brow pencil side is designed to be used to define the eyebrow which I think it does a great job at because it is thin and precise with a great natural colour and pigmentation.

The other end is designed to be used as a highlighter for the brow bone to further define the eye and brow.  If I’m wearing quite heavy, glamorous makeup then this works well however if I’m going for a more natural makeup look, particularly for during the day, then I find this end of the pencil to be too shimmery as it can actually look very sparkly and glittery which is a little over the top at times.  Instead, I like to wear it all over the eye lid either alone or as a base for my other eye shadow and I find that it works really well when used in this way.  It is long lasting and catches the light beautifully.

I love dual ended products because they save space in my makeup bag, making them great for travelling, and this pencil has the added benefit of being retractable so I don’t have to mess on sharpening it either.

Kiko Moon Shadow Water Infused Eye Shadows

If you’re looking for a cream eyeshadow stick similar to the By Terry Ombre Blackstars, then the Kiko Moon Shadow Water Infused Eye Shadows are a good alternative for a fraction of the price.  I have 01 Glamour Gold, 02 Mysterious Chocolate and 04 Glistening Turquoise and there’s also a third shade which is a beautiful plum colour.

These cream eyeshadows come in stick form and again, the packaging is retractable which I love.  The formula is made up of over 42% water which I think is what enables them to glide onto the lids with a smooth finish.  They’re easy to apply and intensely pigmented; simply swipe onto the eye for an intense colour and blend out with your finger or a brush if you want to.  If you’re in a rush to get ready, these are the perfect swipe and go product as they look great when worn alone.  Similarly, if you have more time, you can build them up with other shadows for a really deep, intense look that is great for creating smokey eyes for nights out this autumn.

These eyeshadows are pretty long lasting but I do find that they start to crease towards the end of the day.  They provide a gorgeous colour on the lids that is really buildable which is great because it means that you can increase their intensity.  You can also use them as a base for eyeshadow which I have found works really well as it enables the powder eyeshadow to adhere to the eyes for a longer lasting, more intense effect.

Kiko Dark Tide Eyeliner in 03 and 06

Another eye product in this range is the Kiko Dark Tide Eyeliner of which there are 6 shades.  They’re mostly jewel tones which is great as they’ll look fabulous in the winter months too when jewel coloured clothing tends to be very popular, especially on party dresses.

I have 03 Intriguing Blue and 06 Black which are both highly pigmented.  They have a wax based formula which makes them really long lasting on the skin and transfer proof so they’ll not transfer onto the eye lid or crease.  I have found them to be very long lasting when used on the lid, along the lash line as a winged liner look, for example.  However I did find that they didn’t stay put in my waterline for too long.  This didn’t bother me as I loved how long lasting they were when used as part of a winged liner look and I already have a great pencil in my collection that I use in my waterline.

Again, I love the packaging on these as they’re retractable as well and have a sharpener on the end.

Kiko Matte Muse Lipstick in 02, 03 and 05

Last but not least are my ultimate favourite items from the Kiko Midnight Siren line, the Kiko Matte Muse Lipstick. There are six shades available and I have three of them, 02 Embellished Peony, 03 Enthrall Pink and 05 Haughty Mauve.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the colours are stunning and a great way to update your lipstick collection for autumn.  The colours are bold but feminine, darker than summer lip colours but still pretty.  I love all three and I find it hard to pick between them.  I often think that the mauve shade is my fave but then I change my mind to the pink and the peony.  Its hard choosing when they’re all so gorgeous!

Kiko Matte Muse Lipstick Swatches in 02, 03 and 05

When I first saw these lipsticks, I actually thought that they were nail polishes as they come in little glass bottles just like nail polish does!  At first, I didn’t like the funny applicator that comes with the lipstick but after the second time wearing one of these lipsticks, I loved the application because it actually makes applying the, rather fluid, lipstick easy.

The applicator tip is great for getting right into the corners of the lips and the cupids bow for the ultimate defined look and especially when working with pigmented, bold colours, precision is super important.

What I love the most about these lipsticks is their formula; they’re super matte.  They apply very evenly onto the lips and they’re opaque in one coat because they’re so pigmented.  They dry down to a radiant matte finish that is full of colour.  When I’m wearing them, it feels as though I have nothing on my lips at all in that they don’t feel sticky, tacky or built up at all.  They do have a slight dryness to them, not in a way that makes me feel as though my lips have dried out, rather that they just feel naturally dry.

Needless to say, this superb formula ensures that the lip colour sticks around on the lips for hours and hours, even after eating.  If I have a drink or eat something wet like soup, then I’ll find that the very inside of my lips will need touching up with the colour but other than that, they remain perfect.

The great thing about the dry down effect of these lipsticks is that they don’t transfer so they’ll not transfer onto clothing or another’s skin, etc.

While the packaging might not be ideal for travel or on the go application, these are the one product from the collection that I’d say are a MUST try.  While I love lots of pieces in the Midnight Siren line, these are simply unlike anything else I’ve ever tried!
