When I was jetting off to Morocco earlier this summer, I had a lovely look around the Biza Duty Free shopping area as I always do when I travel. You can read all about my experience here and catch a glimpse of the store in my holiday lookbook video.
Shopping in duty free is part of my holiday and something that I always look forward to before my flight. I particularly like to pick up travel exclusive products and sizes of items that I love.
When I saw the Lancôme Travel Chic travel exclusive make-up clutch edition, I knew that it would be absolutely perfect for me and I particularly wanted to share a full review of it with you now as some of the shades in the palette are perfect for this time of the year.
The clutch itself is a sparkly light gold box clutch with a wristlet strap and a sturdy silver turn lock to open it. Inside is a large mirror that is ideal for travelling and touch ups on the go, along with a tray of products that you’re able to lift out with ease using a small tab, to reveal a lined compartment.
If you so wish, this compartment could be used as storage for your phone, cash and room key if you wanted to use this as a box clutch while you’re away on your travels. Since you don’t usually need too much with you when you’re on holiday, at least I don’t when I’m at a beach destination, this clutch is ideal to use as a small bag.
However we all know that its the gorgeous Lancôme makeup inside this clutch that we’re all interested in and as you would expect from this fabulous brand, it doesn’t disappoint.
Aside from a few colour specific products, like foundation and concealer, there’s everything you need in here to create a gorgeous makeup look. Theres just enough variation with the shades in the palette to create a few different go to looks which makes this palette perfect for taking away with you for a weekend away and you’d only need to add a few extra bits if you’d wanted to take this away with you for a longer holiday.
The photo below should give you an idea of the kind of looks that you can create using this palette; very feminine, girlie and pretty. Nothing too dramatic or over the top.
There are six different eyeshadows, five of which have a shimmery finish and one is a matte. The matte shade is a crisp white that works excellently as an inner corner and brow bone highlight.
All of the shimmery shades are very wearable, except for the pink which I think will be hit and miss with a lot of people as I think that many will assume that is isn’t as wearable as it. It is such a beautiful shade of pink and when incorporated into a makeup look with grey, purple or black shades, it adds a subtle rosy hue that looks so pretty. The other shimmery shades are purple, a brown/grey and a green which is absolutely stunning, especially if you have hazel eyes.
Each shade is very pigmented and blends effortlessly onto the eyelids. They last with the same intensity all day without the need for a primer and they don’t crease or smudge.
The great thing about all of the eye shadows in this set is that they’re all from the original line of Lancôme products, they’re not exclusive to this set so if you try them in this set and love them, you can buy the single eyeshadow afterwards without having to repurchase the full kit.
To complete the eye look, this palette comes with a mini Hypnôse mascara in black which works so well, I’m definitely going to buy the full size when it runs out. The kind lady who was working in Biza when I was looking at these palettes spoke so highly of this mascara and I remember her saying ‘if you love seriously volumised lashes then you’ll love this’ and she was right, I do!
The wand is quite spiky and twisted which enables it to cling onto every lash. It lengthens and separates my lashes while providing this incredible volume. Not quite as much as my beloved Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (review here) but its not far off. I actually think it would be easier to apply than the Too Faced mascara as well because the wand is smaller.
The Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara doesn’t clump or make my lashes go all spidery and it holds a curl really well. If you’re looking for a mascara that stays put all day without flaking or smudging, then I’d definitely recommend this one!
There are two lip products included within the kit; a lipgloss which I think is part of the Lancôme regular range of Gloss à Lèvres products in number 1 and a lipstick which is also available separately as the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge lipstick in 352 Rose Chimère.
The lip gloss is clear with the slightest touch of pink and a tiny little bit of shimmer that doesn’t really show up on the lips except to add a little extra dimension to the them which helps to make them look more full. It doesn’t feel sticky or two tacky on the lips and can be worn alone as part of a no makeup, makeup look or over the top of another lip product, including the one in this kit.
The lipstick in this set is absolutely stunning. It is a pigmented rosy pink that it the perfect everyday pink shade whether you’re wearing it during the day with minimal makeup or out on an evening with a smoky eye. It is relatively long lasting considering how moisturising it is on the lips and it leaves my lips feeling so soft and smooth without feeling tacky or sticky. It definitely makes me want to try more Lancôme lippies!
The final two products in the set are both powders. There’s a translucent compact powder that I think will suit so many people and I’m actually really impressed with its efforts at setting my makeup and keeping my skin looking shine free. When you’ve got super oily skin like I have, this is definitely a feature that you look out for!
The other powder is a stunning blush in the shade Rose Sable which is the perfect muted rosy pink. It blends effortlessly onto the cheeks and is very buildable so you can easily increase the intensity of it depending on the look that you want to create. This is very much an everyday colour that I think will suit so many people. The touch of pink that this creates on the cheeks is very much the element that ties the whole look together when using the other products in this set with the pink lips and the hint of pink shimmer on the eyelids.
The palette does contain some miniature applicators. Theres a powder puff/sponge for the powder, a small brush that could be used to apply the blush, a sponge applicator that could be used for the eyeshadow and a small brush that could be used for the eyeshadow or lip products.
In all honesty, these are next to useless and I would only recommend relying on them if you absolutely had to. Other than that, pack your own makeup brushes with you and you’ll find that you’ll be able to apply the gorgeous makeup in this palette beautifully.
With the variety of complimentry shades, finely milled textures and long lasting formulas, I would highly recommend this as a duty free must have for the next time you’re passing through security.
I’ve seen Lancôme do so many different variations of this clutch as they seem to bring out a different clutch and colour way as the seasons change which is great because it means that there’s always another travel exclusive available when I go on holiday each year!
