Who loves dry, lacklustre hair? ANYBODY? No, I thought not. I think I speak for all of us girls in saying that healthy, glossy locks are the goal. I’d take a beautiful shine over dry, dull hair any day. Yet its often quite hard to achieve particularly if you have colour treated hair and especially if your hair is blonde. Pre lightener (the fancy hairdresser term for bleach that’s used in a bid to not scare us all off) can really damage the hair and leave the ends dry, brittle and lacking shine but that’s not all that can dry the hair out. Hair styling with heated tools, excess drying styling products, salt water, chlorine, the sun, smoking and a whole manner of other things can dry out the hair and take away it’s shine. However I have the product that’ll put that shine back into your hair and then some; L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil.
Cue my review.
You’ll know that I’m no stranger to L’Oréal Professionnel products. I’ve even talked about them on my blog in the past, like my rave about the Série Expert Nutrifier range that I still use now. For years now, I’ve been going to a L’Oréal Pro salon in Sunderland called Frances Marshall. Ever since they first opened, I’ve been a client of theirs, having followed the Creative Director, Amelia, from another salon that she worked in that I’d been to a couple of times. She really knows her stuff and even has her colour degree from L’Oréal so I really trust her opinion when it comes to colours, treatments, cuts, styles and aftercare products.
I love that at the Frances Marshall salon, they sell all of the top hair products from this prestigious pro line so that I can get my hair done and buy my products all from one place. In the past when I’ve gone to other salons, if I’ve needed to get the products from my hair from elsewhere, I’ll often end up trying something else or not bothering and going back to my other products whereas if you’re going to a salon that really does it all then you know that you’re getting the best cut, colour and style for you and that you can maintain it back home from the off making salon hair at home is easy peasy!
One of the products that she always recommends to me and uses on my hair when I go to the salon is the L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil. I’ve been using it ever since and love it so much that when I recently stayed at Ramside Hall, I took a fresh bottle with me to photograph all fancy pants in their gorgeous hotel bathroom!
Without a doubt, the best way to add a glossy, healthy shine to any hair is with a hydrating, nourishing hair oil and the luxurious L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil is one of the best. Made from a rich blend of precious oils including the highly sought after, Argan Oil, this product works to soften the hair and add shine and radiance without weighing it down and it does it with such ease. The oil is really lightweight and not thick or heavy, sticky or gloopy in texture so it really is suitable for all hair types, shades and textures. The pump bottle enables you to control the amount you dispense and apply; my suggestion is always LESS IS MORE.
If you have fine hair like mine, start with half a pump, work it between your fingertips and then gently comb your fingers through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to add radiance, softness and shine. Check the effect and if you’d like to add more, go for it but build on it rather than going in all guns blazing as the last thing you want is to overload your hair and leave it looking greasy. That’s not the look we’re going for here girls. If your hair is thick and/or dry then go in with a full pump or two first and work up from there. Keep the oil away from the roots of your hair, unless you’re doing a slicked back ponytail, for example, and are looking for a high gloss look.
Mythic Oil, the Original Oil (as they now have a Colour Glow Oil version too), can be used in the hair while it is damp after towel drying to enable the hair to be effortlessly detangled when you then comb your locks through and then the radiance it adds to your hair is sort of locked in when blowdried afterwards. Plus frizz is kept under controlled and I really get a smoother result, particularly on the ends of my hair when I use this oil before blowdrying both my natural hair and my HJ Extensions. Mythic Oil is now formulated with added heat protection of up to 230°C too, which is great news for those of us who love to blow dry and heat style out hair.
Mythic Oil can of course be used on dry hair too and it does an amazing job at adding shine, gloss, a healthy sheen and radiance to the locks, depending on how much you use. Sometimes I pick specific sections of my hair out, which I love doing when my hair is curled as I like to place the added shine to the outer parts of my curls for a highlighted effect and when my hair is straight, I like to smooth it evenly over the mid lengths and ends to control frizz, tame flyaways and create a sleek look overall.
Not only is Mythic Oil great as a styling product but its also treating the hair and nourishing it at the same time. The fair trade Argan Oil within the formula, extracted from the Moroccan Argan tree, is well known for its deeply nourishing properties and hair care benefits. I actually visited Morocco a number of years ago and learned all about where Argan Oil comes from and its this oil that’s the key ingredient in the L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil. While on the trip, we stopped by the roadside where the trees grow and little goats actually climb right up the trees! You can see them in the branches, standing there as though they were monkeys or owls! Odd, strange and completely unexpected but very cute! Argan Oil is rich in Vitamin E which is what makes it so deeply nourishing. L’Oréal Professionnel ethically source their Argan Oil, to support the biodiversity of the Argan forest region in southern Morocco and through their fair trade program, they support the local communities who harvest the argan oil too.
If you want to give your hair a gorgeous shine, then you absolutely need this oil in your life girls. The L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil will transform dull, lacklustre locks into smooth, beautiful, healthy looking hair with an incredible shin without weighting it down, providing you use just the right amount that your hair actually needs. It feels so luxurious! A little goes a really long way and the protection and nourishment it gives your hair is amazing. I love the way that it tames the frizz on my fine, frizzy, dry ends and the way that it makes my hair look overall as a result. Plus, the results last. I find that I don’t need to be constantly reapplying the oil; I tend to do it before I blowdry and then after I’ve styled it and then the results last a good day and into the next one, then I’ll add a little more if I’ve used dry shampoo to banish my oily roots as it tends to leave the ends looking a little dry.
If you’re in the Sunderland area, support a local business and pick up a bottle from Frances Marshall. Failing that, head to the Look Fantastic website or Feel Unique. You’ll find great offers that’ll save you a pretty penny and can shop the other products in the Mythic Oil line while you’re at it. Investing in great hair care is always a wise choice; you wear your hair EVERY SINGLE DAY so taking care of it is a must. L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil is a product that’ll last you for months and months, giving you countless days of gorgeous looking locks!
How does Mythic Oil sound to you? What’s your hair like? How often do you use a hair oil?
My hair is quite fine and dry, so Mythic Oil sounds amazing to me! I’ve used a few L’Oréal Professionnel products in the past and I do find Argan Oil products work wonders on my hair, so I’ll have to look out for this!
I just invested in my first hair oil to give my hair some shine, I couldn’t live without it now!
I love a good hair oil or serum, my poor dyed hair needs a boost from time to time.
Oo this sounds really good and it is reassuring to hear it doesn’t weigh down the hair, as that is usually my primary concern when it comes to hair oils. I must give this one a go 🙂
I love the sound of this. I use oils on my hair, and this is the first large bottle of hair oil I’ve seen. It sounds like it works wonders x
I don’t really use many products on my hair other than the odd hair mask as my hair can get greasy quite quickly and suck in oil but I’m sill on the hunt x
I don’t know if this would work on my afro but definitely sounds like a great product. I have naturally dry hair so it needs topping up every so often
My hair is really dry at the moment I tried switching shampoo but it’s doesn’t seem to have made a difference. I’ll have to try this to see if it helps
This sounds like a great product to help with dry hair. I will have to look for some to try out.
