Let’s face it, you don’t have to have been reading my blog for very long to know that I’ve fallen in love with Makeup Revolution. Their Blush Stick and Radiant Light Powder have saved me pounds from buying their expensive cousins in Space NK.
Makeup Revolution offer fast paced makeup releases in a wide choice of shades that are excellent quality and priced very affordably price, whats not to love?
Swatches of the Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers*
The latest Makeup Revolution products that I have been trying out and loving are the Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers.
These are essentially a very pigmented lipgloss. They give your lips a full, bold and glossy look and really pack a punch in the colour department, a bit like a lipstick would.
There are eleven different colours to choose from ranging from purples and pinks through to reds and nudes.
I have two shades from their first release of colours which come in the older packaging with the longer cardboard backing and four shades from their new release that are in the slimmer packaging.
The rose gold cardboard boxes that these lip colours come in is so striking, I love rose gold as a colour anyway but these are the kind of boxes that really stand out on the shelves in Superdrug. There’s just something about rose gold that looks so luxe, expensive and damn right gorgeous.
The packaging of the product itself is pretty much standard lipgloss packaging with a clear tube so that you can see the colour of the product and a black screw off lid. The text is a shiny rose gold and they’ve added a band of rose gold colour around the top of the clear tube which I think is a lovely touch and really adds something to the appearance of these already stunning glosses.
Makeup Revolution have added clear stickers with the name of the lip gloss onto each of the tubes as well so that you know the name of the colour you’re using. When I say names, the lip lacquers each have their own fun names like ‘Paparazzi’ and ‘More Than I Could Give’ which I really love as even though they don’t give an indication as to what the colour will be like, I find it so annoying when products have numbers rather than names so I really like these ones!
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Didn’t I Tell You?
The shade Didn’t I Tell You? was one of Makeup Revolutions first releases in the Intense Lip Lacquer range and it is one of my favourite colours from those that I have tried. It is a muted, mid toned pink with a cool tone to it.
Didn’t I Tell You? is one of those shades that is so wearable, it is perfect for everyday use at any time of the day. It’s not too in your face for the office nor is it too plain jane for a night out on the town and it makes the perfect accompaniment when you’re out for a meal.
The colour of Nothing Like You And I is quite difficult to describe. It is an earthy red but it does have a slight brown tone to it and again, it is quite muted. It isn’t an in your face bright red making it very wearable for the daytime. My friend who has the most beautiful light brown skin thanks to her stunning Indian mother, wears this shade all of the time and it looks incredible on her skin tone.
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Nothing Like You and I
The Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers come with a doe foot application which makes them so easy and comfortable to apply. I have found that on a couple of occasions, the stopper inside the tube that helps to wipe excess product from the applicator, has actually popped out which means that the wand is covered in lip gloss which can get a little messy but that’s nothing that a baby wipe can’t sort out!
Since the lip lacquers are pretty pigmented, I’d recommend applying them while looking in the mirror for the first application of the day. Then once you have the outline in place, if you want to top up during the day, they’re find to just add a little to the centre of the lips and smack them together without looking in the mirror.
My favourite thing about the Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers is how comfortable they are to apply and wear. They’re so smooth and literally glide on to the lips. The colour pay off is fabulous and they’re very pigmented so only a couple of swipes of the applicator wand is needed to create an intense lip look.
Pigmented glosses or even glosses over lipsticks can be a nightmare on windy days as if your hair blows and gets stuck to your lips then the colour transfers, it can end up all over your face and let’s face it, it just gets messy! Whereas with these glosses, there is no sticky feeling to them so when you’re wearing them, if the wind blows you’re not going to end up with your blow dry stuck to your lippy!
They also do not have that tackiness that lip glosses. Of course you can tell that you’re wearing the lip product but they feel more like a slippy lippy or lip balm rather than a gloss and your lips don’t stick together when wearing them.
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Rebel
Rebel is one of the newest shades from the Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer line and it is a beautiful deep berry shade with a touch of pink in it when swatched. This lip colour has me baffled as in the tube it looks like a pink purple, when swatched it looks more like a pink berry and when applied to my lips it looks more of a burgundy berry. Either way it is beautiful!
I did find that Rebel had a tendency to bleed a little on my bottom lip which is annoying as it is so pretty however what I have found works well with it is to mute out the lips with a foundation brush first, then apply a clear lip liner (very affordable one here) followed by the Rebel lip lacquer. I then blot my lips with a tissue and this sort of mattifies Rebel and makes it more of a stain. Then I apply another layer of Rebel, staying ever so slightly away from the edge of my bottom lip.
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Barely There
I was very pleased to find a no fuss, wearable nude amongst the new releases from Makeup Revolution. Barely There is a true nude with plenty of peachy brown tones in to stop it from looking like concealer. This one is a hit with me on natural makeup days or for when I’m wearing a dark smokey eye on a night out and want to keep the lips looking neutral.
I really like the scent of these lip lacquers as they smell faintly of vanilla, a bit like a cupcake scent rather than a MAC lippy smell. It isn’t too strong and doesn’t last for a long time but it is apparent when you apply the lip product.
While the scent doesn’t hang around for too long, for lip gloss hybrids these products do last a relatively long time on the lips. Providing I’m not eating anything, I can easily go two to three hours without reapplying these and I find that they wear off very evenly as well which I love. All of the colours seem to gradually fade away and some of the darker ones leave a light, even stain in their trace.
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Paparazzi
Paparazzi is a super bright pink with a blue tone to it that makes your teeth look whiter than they are. It has this incredible shine to it that makes the lips look so full and juicy. It is so pretty worn alone but can really up the impact when layered over a dull and boring lipstick. I LOVE this shade!
I have to say that I adore the finish of the lip lacquers, especially Paparazzi. They all have a gorgeous glossy finish to them, the muted ones less so than the brights though and Paparazzi is the best of the bunch that I have tried. It looks fabulous and much more like an expensive pigmented gloss.
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Depravity
My final Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer shade is Depravity which is a cool toned lilac. I didn’t think I could pull off purple lips but I actually really like the effect.
This one applies a little more sheer to the lips than it does when swatched and it isn’t as pigmented as the other lip lacquers but I think that this is probably a good thing when you’re trying out a completely new colour like lilac for the first time!
I have really loved trying out these lip products and some have become staples in my every day makeup bag, namely Didn’t I Tell You?, Barely There and Paparazzi.
