Over the last couple of months, I’ve been trying out some makeup products from MeMeMe Cosmetics and they’ve really become part of my daily makeup routine. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to start to put together some reviews of these products for you all and share my thoughts on them.
MeMeMe Cosmetics are a drugstore brand that ship internationally from their website. I do believe that they were stocked in Superdrug at one point but now everything is house on their website which is so easy to navigate, luxe looking and I really like that you can use PayPal to shop their pretty pieces. It just makes everything so much easier and the whole shopping experience much more enjoyable!
As the summer is fast approaching, I have been trying to adopt a more dewy makeup look. The trouble is that I’ve got really oily skin so I do need to wear a mattifying base in order to stop myself from looking far too shiny by the end of the day and my makeup practically sliding off my lunchtime.
However I have discovered something that works really well for me and that’s applying my usual foundation, the Chanel Perfection Lumiere which is a good foundation for oily skin because it leaves a matte but natural finish, and then adding a liquid highlighter to my skin.
The liquid highlighter that I have been using is the MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat the Blues highlighter and complexion illuminator. It isn’t tested on animals which I’m sure many of you will be very pleased to read.
It is available in two different shades, Oyster Gold which is a warm toned, champagne shade and Pearl Pink which is a cool toned, silvery pink shade. Both of these are best-selling hero products from MeMeMe.
I have the Pearl Pink shade and I really think that it suits the cooler undertones in my skintone. That being said, what I really like about this highlighter is that it can lend itself so well to a cool or warm toned makeup look.
Beat the Blues* is a skin illuminator and complexion highlighter. It can be used to create a youthful dewy finish to your makeup look all year round but don’t misunderstand that as being shiny or glittery. It has a subtle and buildable formula that you can really adapt to suit the look that you’re going for. This is ideal for me as I’m not a fan of very in your face highlighted looks.
There’s a couple of different uses for this highlighter. You can either use the attached brush to dot the product along the points of your face that you want to highlight and accentuate or you can mix it in with your foundation for an all over shimmery glow.
I personally find mixing it in with my foundation doesn’t work for me, I’m assuming thats because I do have oily skin and my foundation works to mattify the skin so essentially the two products would be working against one another.
However I have found that dotting it along my cheek bones, on my brow bone, down the centre of my nose, on my cupids bow and the centre of my chin works really well. I find that the highlighter blends effortlessly with my fingers or with a brush, which is my preferred method, and it doesn’t move my other makeup around underneath.
I love the subtle but buildable effect that it has on the skin and it catches the light beautifully. It looks very natural and really enhances the complexion in a lightly illuminated way.
In the past, I have always used powder highlighting products but since trying Beat the Blues, my eyes have really been opened to liquid highlighters and I’ll definitely continue using this.
Beat the Blues comes in packaging that is reminiscent of nail polish in that it has a glass bottle with a screw lid with a brush attached. In fact, it does remind me of the Benefit High Beam style packaging and to be honest, the highlighter itself is very similar.
If you were to ask me to choose between the two, I’d definitely recommend the MeMeMe Cosmetics one over the Benefit highlighter as it is almost one third of the price and works equally as well, if not better.
