Murad have created three new travel sized skincare kits that are exclusive to Marks and Spencer. They’re going to be available from Monday 16th June but I was lucky enough to have a sneak peek at them before their release and today I am going to review the one that I have been trying out.
There will be three different skincare sets to choose from depending on your skin type or concern. Each set contains a number of carefully chosen miniature sized Murad skincare products that are designed to help your skin and to keep it looking beautiful and healthy even when you’re travelling.
Each set contains one of the day creams from Murad that contain both UVA and UVB protection which means that they protect you against ageing and burning. Each of the day creams has Murad’s new feature ingredient which is called Murasol. This is a blend of antioxidants the deeply penetrate the skin and it can also defuse the free radical damage from UV rays that can lead to the premature ageing of the skin.

First there is the Smooth and Soften Travel Kit which will retail for £10 but will be worth £25. It is designed to help to tackle fine lines and wrinkles and will therefore be great for anyone in their late twenties and up. It contains four products and these are the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser (30ml size), the Complete Reform (3.7ml size), the Time Release Retinol Concentrate (0.9ml size) and the Sheer Lustre Day Moisture SPF 15 PA+++ (7.5ml size), all of which are available to buy individually but they come in the kit for you to try before committing to the full size.
Then there is the Youthful You Travel Kit which, again, is £10 but is worth £27. This one is designed to make then skin firmer and to brighten it. There’s three products in this kit; the Renewing Cleansing Cream which is 45ml, the Age-Diffusing Serum (3.7ml size), and the Sheer Lustre Day Moisture SPF 15 PA +++ (7.5ml size).

The kit I have been trying out is called Balance and Protect and it is designed to balance oily, blemish prone skin. It contains three products which are the Clarifying Wipes (x5 wipes), Oil- Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA ++ (10ml) and the Skin Perfecting Primer (5ml).
I have used the Clarifying Wipes before, you can read my full review here but in essence, they are cleansing wipes that you can use to take the top layer of your make up off with before doing a full cleanse and you can also use them to refresh your skin throughout the day. The ones in this set are particularly good for travelling because they’re in single use sachets so you could use a couple on the flight on your way to your destination and some on the way back, knowing that they wont have dried up in between. These wipes are great for oily skin because they contain algae extract which helps to regulate excess sebum and they’re good to use if you suffer from blemishes too because of the witch hazel in them which again, controls oil and it also helps to tighten pores and fight spot causing bacteria.
The Oil- Control Mattifier in the kit is a 3 in 1 product designed to help oily skin by providing an instantly matte finish on the skin, controlling oil all day and providing the skin with UVA/UVB protection. When I first applied this to my skin, I thought it was going to be quite light weight by the way that the product squeezed onto the back of my hand but when I applied it to my skin it actually took a little work to get it onto my skin and a little bit of it doesn’t go very far. It reminds me of a lighter weight Sudocream when applying it. Once it has been rubbed into the skin, you can see the Mattifying effect. It is instant and my face looked shine free. I’ve tried this both with and without make up and I have to say that it does help to keep my face shine free for a good 8 hours or so depending on what I’m doing and what make up I have on, which for my super oily skin, is impressive.
The Oil-Control Mattifier contains SPF 15 with UVA and UVB protection which is more than adequate for the strength of the sun in the UK. It’s great using a skincare product with SPF in it, particularly if you have oily skin, as you’re not overloading your skin by layering up product after product. A lot of facial SPFs are quite thick which can be heavy on top of a moisturiser so having these two elements in one, with the added mattifying quality is great. Sometimes I end up skipping a separate SPF because I don’t want to be layering up so many products, so I would definitely consider purchasing the full size of this to keep Dr Murad happy 🙂
‘Not wearing a sunscreen daily is one of the worst things people can do when it comes to skincare since incidental UV exposure can happen even when you’re not directly in the sun.’
– Howard Murad
The last product in the set is the Skin Perfecting Primer which has a much more fluid consistency than the product above and it has a light to medium tone colour that really blends effortlessly into the skin. I found that this primer can be used as intended, under make up, to really create an even surface for the make up to be applied on and to help it to last longer but I also found that it could be used alone as a way of adding a light tint to the face to balance the tone of the skin and minimise imperfections. This is great for popping on after a flight to perk up the skin and to make it look healthier in the baggage haul!
I think that this kit is a great way to try out the products before committing to buying the full size which can be a big risk and a waste of money if you don’t end up enjoying the products. The handy sized products coupled with the clear zip lock bag make this an ideal kit to travel with, especially if you’re an oily skinned girl like me as the heat when you’re abroad can make you feel even oilier and like your make up is going to slide off!
This kit retails for £10 but is worth £15 and it will be available to buy from Marks and Spencer and in store on Monday.
