My Walk to Work

I mentioned on Twitter that I’ve started a major health kick this last week.  I’d hurt my foot recently and been really ill with flu so my usual healthy eating had ceased as I could only swallow ice cream and my usual gym routine had been swapped for evenings on the sofa with a blanket and a capful of Night Nurse.  Not good.

Despite the frost and freezing temperatures, I began the proceedings by walking into work to ease myself back into the swing of things.  This used to take me 45 minutes but I’ve got it down to a fine art of around 25 minutes now.  I simply pick a playlist on my iPhone for a bit of quick paced motivation, connect my headphones and power walk to the beat of the music.  I must admit, I’m quite accustomed to the odd sing a long and bum wiggle on the way so it’s a good job most people are preoccupied with getting themselves ready for work while I’m dancing out of the door.

My walk to work on these cold winter days has been warm and stylish whilst remaining musically sound as I’ve been wearing these Hear-muffs from John Lewis.

Hear-muffs

Hear-muffs are snuggley earmuffs with headphones built into them which allow you to plug in your music player of choice.  They come with a 1 metre long cable which makes them long enough to plug my iPhone in and walk with it in my coat pocket or in my bag so I’m not having to hold it all of the time.  The volume is adjustable and the sound coming from the Hear-muffs is perfect, not muffled at all.

I found them surprisingly comfortable to wear and nice and warm  They don’t mess up my hair either as they are worn behind the head rather than on top of it.  They’re adjustable and feel really secure on my head too which is one of the things I like the most about them as I was worried in case they would slip down my head as I walk but I’m pleased to report that they remain snugly on my ears for the duration of my power walk.  I chose the magenta ones in a chunky cable knit as I thought that they would suit a lot of the scarves and gloves that I already have.  They’re available in lots of other colours and patterns too; I’m thinking of getting a cream coloured pair before the winter is over.

Hear-muffs are £9.95, available from John Lewis.

What are your favourite ways to keep fit?  What motivating songs do you listen to?
