Today I wanted to share with you a very special post featuring some products I’ll never forget and that’s those used to create my wedding day scent.
Fragrance is so powerful to me as it can evoke a multitude of memories and can instantly transport me back to a particular place and time in my life. On my first date with Mr WLL I wore a very distinctive perfume from YSL called Elle (review here, buy here). It wasn’t necessarily a conscious decision I had made, it was just my favourite scent at the time. However fast forward a few years when I had run out of all of my other perfumes and I repurchased my old favourite, Mr WLL instantly recognised it as the perfume I wore on our first date. I thought it was just girls who were sentimental about that kind of thing and it really surprised me that he had remembered the perfume.
From then on I had it in my head that I wanted to find my own signature scent especially to wear on our wedding day and throughout our honeymoon so that in years to come, I could always associate that scent with that special time in our lives and perhaps wear it on anniversaries too.
When choosing a brand for my wedding day perfume there was one perfumer that came to mind and that was Jo Malone who are a luxury, high end perfume brand. I chose Jo Malone because their scents are very luxurious, very exclusive and quite unusual, especially in my friendship group as a lot of my friends like the same scents so it is difficult to stand out with my fragrance as it is likely that we’ll be wearing the same one! Jo Malone perfumes aren’t a scent that you smell everyone wearing as they’re a little harder to get hold of where I live than the usual Gucci, YSL, Juicy Couture and Thierry Mugler scents that I usually wear.

Jo Malone are very experienced in creating a bespoke scent as they offer something that they call Fragrance Combining. All of their scents are designed to be worn alone or layered with other colognes or crèmes to create your own signature scent. I went along to book a Jo Malone Wedding Consultation where they help you to come up with the scent for your wedding day and throw in a hand and arm massage for good measure however upon speaking with the consultant and trying a combination out on some tester cards, I knew I had already found the scent I would wear on my wedding day. I had a little applied to my skin and couldn’t stop smelling it all day.
I chose two fragrances and one body crème to layer together. Layering two different scents creates a new scent entirely but layering two products of the same fragrance (i.e. the body creme and the cologne) helps to intensify the scent and make it last longer. I’ve spoken about this many times on my blog but in essence, it can range from using a combination of a shower gel, body lotion, deodorant or perfume spray in the same scent to build it up on the skin to intensify the scent and make it last longer. Jo Malone are PERFECT for doing this.
I selected the Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao Body Crème (£50, here) first of all for its powdery, comforting scent. It is a floral fragrance that oozes sex appeal and has a depth and warmth to it that I’ve never found in another floral fragrance. Jo Malone describe as being ‘The rhythm of Latin music — sexy, edgy and
persuasive. Fresh limes and zesty grapefruit dance over a heart of blue agava
flower. Sea salt cuts through the primitive rawness of cacao to reveal the
sensuality of vetiver, cinnamon and musk.’ Its top note is Key Lime, the heart note is Agava Flower and it has a base of Cacao Bean which combine together to create a really alluring scent. On my wedding day I applied the body crème to my legs up to my knees and on my arms and décolletage. The smell was incredible and the body crème felt luxurious when applied to my skin thanks to its rich texture. A little goes a long way with this body crème so it will last a long time- I’m going to save it for date nights with my new hubby.
The two fragrances I selected are the Blue Agava and Cacao cologne (£39 for 30ml or £78 for 100ml here) and Pomegranate Noir (buy here) which is a fruity scent and a best seller. Jo Malone describe Pomegranate Noir as ‘the sensuality of a
daring red dress. Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are
spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. Dark
and enigmatic.’ It is a very deep fruit fragrance, not a synthetic, artificially sweet scent that some fruity perfumes are. The top note of this fragrance is pomegranate, the heart note is Casablanca Lily and the base note is Guaiacwood which I think is the note that really gives this fragrance its depth. Use separately, these two colognes are lovely but when used together they really are something special.
There are a couple of ways to spray the colognes, particularly for your wedding day. The first would be to take one of the scents and spray it to the front half of your body only and then take the other cologne and spray it on the other side of your body. That way, when you’re walking down the aisle, your guests will smell one scent in front of you and another from the back of you. Since I was already wearing the body crème all over, I thought the essence of this application would be a little lost so instead I spritzed the Pomegranate Noir perfume on my pulse points and across my décolletage and then over the top I spritzed the Blue Agava and Cacao scent on the same areas to sandwich the Pomegranate Noir fragrance in between.
Many of my friends and family commented on how beautiful my perfume smelt on my wedding day and stayed on my skin all day. The scent was so unique and beautiful that I would forever associate it with my wedding day. I bought the 30ml sized bottles so that they were travel friendly and I took both fragrances away with me on my honeymoon to layer up just like on my wedding day so that in years to come when I wear these scents again, I will be transported back to this special time in my life.
If you’re looking for a fragrance for a special day then I would wholeheartedly recommend Jo Malone. I wear her scents daily but for my wedding, I wanted something special and different, with a little more attention paid to it and that was exactly what I got when I bought from there.
