Break With Tradition This Christmas with Goldsmiths

Northern Goldsmiths Newcastle Diamond Eternity Ring

My favourite place to shop for fine jewellery is and always has always been Goldsmiths, specifically their Northern Goldsmiths store in Newcastle with the majestic gold kissing clock outside.  Aesthetically, it is a sight to behold and thats before you’ve even stepped through the doors to admire the jewels inside.

I visited the store this summer as part of their #NorthernGoldsmithsBigDay campaign to celebrate their grand reopening following a major revamp of the shop to restore it to the stunningly impressive look that it had at the turn of the last century.  I’ve spoken a lot about my time at the event, the restorations and the beautiful jewellery that is available there, as I’m sure you will have seen in my other blog posts and on social media.  However if you would specifically like to read more about the restoration work and see how the store looks now, you can check out my post all about the flagship store here.

As a jewellers, Goldsmiths, holds a special place in my heart as it is actually where my own engagement ring is from.  They have such a stunning collection of diamond rings, especially their engagement, wedding and eternity rings.  I love a bit of sparkle and many of the pieces could easily be worn as special rings rather than to specifically symbolise marriage.

Northern Goldsmiths Newcastle Diamond Eternity Ring

I actually have a beautiful diamond ring from there that is really an eternity ring but I wear it on my right hand when I’m going somewhere special or want to add a little extra sparkle to my outfit, which lets face it, is all of the time.  You can take a closer look at my Goldsmiths diamond eternity ring here.  I love it because it is exactly the kind of jewellery that I like; super sparkly but  still quite dainty and understated compared to some rings that you can buy.  Its the kind of piece that I could be happy wearing in fifty years time as it is timeless and will never ever go out of fashion.  That’s exactly what you want when you’re spending a lot of money on a piece of jewellery; you want it to be incredibly well made and a piece that you can wear for eternity.

This particular eternity ring is crafted from 18 carat white gold, which is my preferred gold as it matches my wedding and engagement rings.  It has 12 diamonds set within the band with a weight of 0.50 carats.  Just look at it sparkle!

My ring got me thinking about eternity rings and as a newly wed, when in the future I might receive such a ring to symbolise that point in my marriage.  I guess it’ll be when the time feels right or perhaps after we’ve had a baby in the future.

Gone are the days when people stuck with tradition and reserved an eternity ring for when they reached a landmark anniversary, such as 50 years.  Many people give an eternity ring to their spouse now after their first child or following something that is significant to them, perhaps even a struggle that they’ve overcome together.  Plus, so many people are getting married later in life that they may never, realistically, reach 50 years of marriage as frank as that is to say.

In my opinion, life is far too short to be waiting for a particular date to give a special gift; tell your loved one that you love them every single day and if you’re able to show them that with a special treat once in a while then even better.

With Christmas coming up, I thought that it would be really fitting to share this post with you all, especially as there may be some people out there who are considering buying such a piece for their own partners.  I’d say go for it; Christmas is as good a time as any and I don’t know a single woman whose face wouldn’t light up upon opening a box with a beautiful diamond ring inside on Christmas Day.

Theres so much to choose from at Goldsmiths whether you’re actually buying an eternity ring or any other piece of jewellery.  My advice would be to go with what feels right and is symbolic for you and the person you’re buying the piece for and do it with love.  An eternity ring usually has lots of stones in it, with the intention of each one representing a different aspect of the relationship that you cherish.  With that in mind, I think that if you were to give an eternity ring to your spouse this Christmas, it might be really romantic if you also wrote a note to go with it to say what the different things you cherish about your relationship are and if they’re memories, you could even include some photos, perhaps in an album to really show the person all of the different ways that you love them.

The great thing about buying a piece from the Goldsmiths diamond collection is that each piece is fully traceable and conflict free so you know exactly what you’re buying and they all come with the Goldsmiths 10 year diamond promise, where they’ll inspect and clean your diamond every year for the ten years following your purchase completely free of charge.

What I also love about Goldsmiths is that they aren’t a jewellers that is reserved exclusively for those with a lot of money to spend.  They offer so many different pieces from a variety of price points so if you like the look of one particular ring but cannot afford the price tag, they may have another ring that looks exactly the same, or very similar from their extensive stock, that has a lower carat weight and therefore costs less money.  So you can get the same look without spending as much, making more pieces accessible to more people.

Plus, if you’re buying an item over a certain value, you have the opportunity to apply for interest free credit if you so wish.  If approved, you’ll be able to pay a deposit and then spread the cost over a set amount of months or years without any additional charges which is great especially at this time of the year when money is often a little tight for a lot of people.  Providing you’re living within your means, it gives so many people the opportunity to buy or gift a beautiful piece of jewellery this Christmas.

You can shop this eternity ring here and see many more that Goldsmiths have to offer here.

Beautiful rings. Most of my friends were given eternity rings after the birth of their first child but as I don't wear jewellery that often I opted out of this tradition. I inherited a beautiful eternity ring when my grandma passed away which has rubies rather than diamonds but unfortunately it can't be resized as they can't guarantee it won't break so I wear it on a chain instead.

Great post Laura, I will consider goldsmiths in the future. I just have one question if you don'tMind me asking, what size ring finger are you? I'm an S on my right hand but feel a size bigger would be better for my left. Being plus size I worry about whether I'll be able to find a ring that fits, do you know whether goldsmiths stock large rings for women or whether they'll be able to adjust according to my needs? Thanks again and keep up the great posts!
