Spring is here, summer is on its way and so is my holiday to Morocco. To say I’m excited is a complete understatement and I’ve been frantically searching the shops and my favourite online websites to find the best summer fashions to take away with me when I go away.
This summer, I really want to mix up my current wardrobe with some new trend led pieces and really enjoy everything that dressing for the warmer months has to offer.
When I’m looking for summer clothes, one website that I always check out is New Look and I head straight to their Holiday Shop for all of the latest summer trends. I much prefer shopping from their Inspire range online as they have a much wider range available than they do in store and I like to be able to see all of their pieces in one place.
This summer its all about loose, floaty fabrics which is great if you’re someone who likes to feel comfortable in their clothes which I certainly do. I hate close fitting, restrictive fabrics so something that enables me to shimmy around effortlessly at a beach party with a cocktail in my hand is going to head straight onto my to-buy list.
Fashion wise, there is something for everyone this summer whether you’re someone who loves plain colours or bold prints. If plain is your thing then I’d suggest adding some texture with crochet detailing, fringing and pompom trims and if you’re a lover of prints then you will adore the aztec, tropical floral and boho floral that there is around right now. Worn alone over plain basics or as a co-ord they look so amazing, especially if you’re wanting to achieve that laid back, boho babe look.
As we started to come out of winter and the spring trends started to feed through onto my favourite online shops, I began to notice the abundance of Bardot styles available. This style is going to be huge this summer whether you’re wanting a more structured evening look or a laid back gypsy style outfit.
When I saw the Inspire Black Jersey Bardot Neck Maxi Dress, I knew that I had to have it as it would be perfect for my holidays this summer and ideal for wearing to the shops or out for afternoon drinks with the girls back home.
The first thing that struck me about this dress when I put it on is how comfortable it is to wear. That’s the great thing about jersey as it is super soft, relatively light weight and very relaxed which makes it so easy to throw on and go. This one has plenty of stretch in the fabric and I love that it has the elasticated detailing in the design too with the elasticated Bardot neckline and short sleeves that ensures this off the shoulder style stays that way and the elasticated part under the bust that pulls you in at the waist. I really like this feature as it enables you to create more shape in the dress and have it fold over a little to make it ruffle more at the bust.
For reference, I am 5ft 5″ and this is most definitely maxi dress length on me, a couple more inches and it would be floor length, whereas on the model, who is 5ft 9″ here on the New Look website, it did come up shorter to more of a mid calf length on her. That’s something to bare in mind when ordering as this dress looks fabulous at either length. Sometimes I find that maxi dresses swamp shorter girls and sometimes on girls that are taller, they can be too short and look a little silly.
One of my beautiful besties is super tall at almost 5ft 10″ and she often finds that maxis from the tall section of websites are too long and those from the standard section look like the bottom of the dress has divorced her ankles and married her knees. This Bardot maxi dress is ideal because it would suit someone a little shorter than me and someone a lot taller so its a win win!
I can’t wait to wear this dress in Morocco as it will be great for day and night wear. When I’m on holiday and trying to pack lightly, I like to take dresses that are good for all times of day then I wear them out at night first so that they’re looking their most pristine and then I’ll wear them a couple of times during the day too.
This dress will look gorgeous when we go to the YSL gardens and to look around the markets with a hat and a fringe bag and it’ll look lovely dressed up with a statement necklace, my hair in a top knot and some sparkly sandals at night too.
When the sun is shining, I want to be out there enjoying it, not stuck at home choosing my outfit so a dress like this is perfect for me because it looks instantly fabulous and is very easy to accessorise.
I’ve chosen to pair it with my straw fedora from Next that I bought last summer which looks so cool as well as actually keeping me cool, especially when I’m on holiday when the hot sun threatens to burn my scalp to within an inch of its life!
Boohoo actually have a very similar, very affordable straw fedora here. I have bought many of my hats from Boohoo in the past and they have always been superb quality and lated me a long time!
For jewellery, I’m wearing my long gold leaf necklace that I got many years ago from a shop called Muse that was in the Metro Centre that is very much long gone, sadly as they sold some gorgeous jewellery pieces. There’s a similar one from Claires.
I’m also wearing lots of gold bangles that I believe I got from Primark but again it was so long ago and they’re very mismatched. Bangles are perfect for wearing during the summer but I find that they’re a bit like hair grips; I keep losing them! I really need to sort through all of my jewellery as I don’t feel as though I’m getting as much use out of it all as I should be. That’s another thing to pop on my to do list!
For my shoes, I decided to take my new Michael Kors Meg Flat Thong Toe Post Sandals on their first outing. I’ve been trying to save these for Morocco but the temptation got the better of me; lets face it, they’re gorgeous. The huge gold bow and rope style base go so well together and I love how incredibly comfortable they are. I can walk around all day in these without them hurting my feet at all thanks to their flexible sole and they fit really securely to my feet too which stops my feet from sliding around in them. Yes they were expensive but I honestly couldn’t recommend these enough!
