When there’s a last minute date night on the cards, its great to have a simple black dress in your wardrobe that you can pop on with a moments notice. Add some heels and a slick of a red lipstick and you’re ready to head out of the door.
This plus size black dress is the Fitted Waist Jersey Maxi Dress by Yoek that I got from Navabi recently. If you’re someone who loves high quality fabrics that have a weight to them then this piece is for you.
Blacker than black, it skims the body and creates a gorgeous silhouette. The dress comes in dual sizes and I would say that its true to size; I chose a 22/24. Length wise, I’m 5ft 5″ and as you can see, this dress hits me a couple of inches above the ankles so if you’re taller than I am and a similar shape then this wont be a maxi dress length on you but if you’re petite then it should be long enough without trailing on the floor.
Not all black dresses are made the same; finding one that has a great shape is key. I love the neckline of this dress the most as it has a V shape with a tie detail at the bust and a elasticated panel beneath the bust which is very flattering and ensures that the dress hangs beautifully.
The fabric of this plus size dress doesn’t crinkle easily so it is a great option to take away with you on holiday as it shouldn’t crease too badly in your case. The maxi dress style is casual enough for a night having dinner by the pool and you can simply throw it on as part of a quick change after the beach and the slinky, darkness of the material ensures that its also dressy enough to wear as a date night dress back at home.
I’ve simply popped it on with my Primark flatforms (similar here, high end alternative here) and my Lulu Guinness Black Lips Clutch which are staple pieces in my wardrobe. They go with the vast majority of outfits and instantly take an outfit from day to night. If I were to wear this dress in the daytime, it would look lovely with some flat sandals and perhaps a cropped denim jacket or a cardigan but for a night time, wedges and a clutch are the way to go.
To instantly take my makeup from day to night, I like to pop on a red lip. The key is to pick one that suits your colouring, both for your skin and hair colour and in a formula that you feel comfortable to wear. I’ve had MAC’s Ruby Woo in my lipstick stash for years but the truth is that I never wear it because it is just far too drying on my lips.
Instead, I opt for the Kiko Mirage Lip Stylo Lipstick in 08 Let’s Be Cherry*. This is a bold lipstick thats opaque in one swipe. It has a shiny finish that catches the light beautifully. This lipstick is part of Kiko’s Summer Collection which is a limited edition release from them this year. I have been trying out a few bits from the collection and can’t wait to tell you more about them in a blog post!
