Embroidery is everywhere this spring from shirts and tops to jeans, leather jackets and trainers.
Italian design houses, Gucci and Dolce and Gabbana, have massively backed the trend this year and really led the way with some incredible examples of floral and bird embroidery in every colour palette imaginable.
It goes without saying that when such big designer names are leading the way, celebrities follow, making the embroidered trend cool again.
You can’t pick up a magazine or scroll through Instagram without seeing Cara Delevingne or Kendall Jenner rocking an embroidered piece.
Clothing with this accent is the MUST HAVE choice to add to your wardrobe this season but you don’t need to break the bank in order to update your look.
The high street have been very quick to create fashion forward, affordable pieces and plus size favourite, Yours Clothing, are flying the flag for the fuller figured fashionistas out there.
From the floral embroidered ripped jeans and pink knitted tee to the mesh body that has major sex appeal and the sheer shirt that so many of you loved when I wore it in this Instagram post, Yours Clothing have got you covered.
As well as their own range and their Limited Collection, Yours Clothing also stock a fabulous range of plus size brands to keep your wardrobe on point.
AX Paris Curve are one of the brands sold at Yours and I’ve been a fan of their clothing for many years.
Longtime readers of WhatLauraLoves may remember the abundance of outfit posts that I put together wearing their gorgeous dresses, including my favourite lemon dress that my darling husband burned beyond repair with the iron; this is still a sore subject!
The AX Paris Curve Black & Pink Rose Embroidery Style Bardot Top is my favourite embroidered piece from Yours Clothing right now because it ticks all the right style boxes for me. Not only because of the beautiful rose design against the black which is an effortlessly standout combination in my opinion but because of the off-shoulder Bardot style that we all know I adore and the tie sleeves.
They can be tied loosely, knotted or in a bow, the latter of which is my favourite but either way, they look as girlie as you want them to and so pretty.
The top is a woven material without any stretch to it, except for across the shoulders where it is elasticated, as to be expected from this style of top. I tend to find that items from the brands or Limited Collection at Yours tend to run a size smaller than their standard range so with that and the fabric in mind, I’d suggest sizing up.
What I love about the cut of this top is that if you’re generously shaped like I am, then you’ll often find that to get a woven or none stretchy material to fit over your tummy then you’ll need to size up, which tends to make some tops and dresses very big across the shoulders but that’s not the case with this top.
The elastic across the shoulders isn’t too slack, even when sizing up to accommodate my tummy; it is tight enough to be secure and keep the top down off my shoulders but it has more than enough give in the elastic for it to extend to fit my shape perfectly.
When wearing the embroidery trend, I’d suggest keeping the rest of your outfit really simple to let that gorgeous detail do all the talking.
For me, that meant sticking to an almost exclusively black colour palette with a pop of colour thanks to some chunky heels I’ve had for more years than I care to imagine.
I paired the Bardot top with some leather look leggings, similar to these ones that are coming soon to Yours Clothing and my new LV Twist Bag.
To tie a look like this together, I’d suggest adding another pop of colour with a lipstick in a similar shade to that depicted in the embroidery; should that be suitable of course. I am by no means suggesting a frosty blue hue reminiscent of Rose as she waved tatty bye to Jack, sinking into the water at the end of Titanic, far from it.
However if the embroidery of your particular garment features pink, coral, red or another hue that you love to wear then go for it. In my case, that was the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Lost Cherry (review here).
This style of outfit is ideal for drinks in a bar with friends, enjoying a meal in a restaurant on date night or for the theatre with your bestie.
I took these photos at The Customs House in South Shields before I went to see Jason Cook’s Comedy Club which saw acts such as 8 Out Of 10 Cats & Mock The Week’s Alun Cochrane and hilarious scouser Adam Rowe take to the stage.
If you’re in the North East and you’re looking for a great night out then this is the best stand up comedy you’ll find in the region by a clear mile. My friend and I had a fantastic night and after a very stressful week, the side splitting laughter was very much appreciated. We particularly enjoyed the comedic songs penned by Jason Cook and Glen Roughead which took me back to my teens where I’d spend afternoons laughing away to Lee Evans DVDs with my Nana, as he’d always perform songs as part of his gigs.
What I loved about Jason Cook’s Comedy Club was that a great night was encouraged without the need for heckling, which is particularly good for lesser known acts, just starting out on the comedy circuit. The Customs House are highly regarded for supporting and nurturing new, fresh talent and its quite exciting to think that you could be watching the next big comic up there on that stage, hand picked by Jason amongst the more well known faces.
The laid back, friendly, anything goes atmosphere ensured that the audience could sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
Comedy is all about enjoying yourself and feeling free to laugh out loud uncontrollably and Jason Cook’s Comedy Club at The Customs House definitely has the right environment for that.
Turns out, laughing can be tremendous therapy and both my friend and I left with huge smiles on our faces, promising to return for another night at the comedy club.
Who knows what I’ll wear next time or which trend I’ll be inspired by but one things for certain, I’m guaranteed to have a great night!
