On Sunday, I was getting ready to go out to lunch with my husband when I decided to try on my new Scarlett and Jo dress to see how it fit. It was love from the first time I put it on and I just had to take some snaps in it.
I’m going to a birthday party at the weekend and then I’m going shopping in Manchester. As soon as I put this dress on with my accessories, I knew that this is going to be the exact outfit that I’ll wear for the party as I feel so great in it.
The dress that I’m wearing is the Scarlett and Jo Black Mesh Insert Dress from Evans which is part of their new collection.
When I first saw this prom dress online, I thought that I would like it as I have another dress in a similar style which is also from Scarlett and Jo. I love how their pieces are classic, ageless and really flattering, theres something for everyone. Plus, they’re very true to size which makes them so easy and worry free to order online.
I have a soft spot for this style of dress in particular as I wore a similar one to my own bridal shower last year, you can see it here.
The dress has a stretchy top with short, quite loose fitting sleeves and a key hole detail with a button closure at the back which adds as an extra detail when you’re wearing your hair up.
The front has a mesh panel with a sweet heart neckline where the mesh meets the opaque fabric. I love how the material on the top of the dress is stretchy because I feel as though it holds me in and fits to my figure. This is particularly important for me as I need to look for dresses in a size to fit my stomach but this often means that they’re too baggy around my arms and bust however this one fits me really well.
The dress does have shoulder pads and at first, I thought that I wasn’t going to like them as I thought that they felt quite thick however as soon as I put the dress on, I knew that they only did good things for the shape of the dress! They’re relatively subtle and not very 80s at all like I first thought they would be!
The great thing about the design of this dress is the elasticated panel in the middle. Having this around the waist really pulls me in and makes me feel as though my figure looks better because this area is accentuated. It also enables the skirt to fall really beautifully in that classic prom style.
The skirt has a couple of layers; the outer layer being a printed floral and spot design in red, green, blue and white on a black background and the under layer is the lining with netting which helps to give the skirt a more pouffy prom shape.
I adore the shape of this dress as it is so girly and flattering! The skirt part of the dress is actually available in other designs as a skirt itself, not as a dress, which I would be really interested in trying out.
For my jewellery, I picked out the white colour from the detail on the skirt and decided to wear my new pearl effect jewellery from BHS with it. I actually picked these out from their wedding shop and was surprised to find out how many pretty accessories, shoes and jewellery they have in addition to their wedding dresses and wedding guest outfits.
My earrings are the Iridescent Circe Stone Earrings which have an undeniable sparkle about them and really catch the light. I think that stud earrings are so elegant and very underrated. They’re often considered to be the dull sister of large, in your face earrings but they don’t have to be boring at all. By opting for a bigger style in a super sparkly crystal design, they keep you looking put together and sophisticated while still being fun, feminine and flirty.
The Pearl Rope Necklace that I’m wearing is very much a new style for me but a very welcome addition to my jewellery collection. It looks solid and it is but still very light weight and I love how it sits looking effortlessly chic around my neck. I’m also wearing some pearl and rhinestone stretchy bracelets that have a crystal and diamante detail on them too that I really think pulls together the sparkly style of the earrings with the softness of the ivory pearls.
The bag that I am carrying is also from the wedding shop at BHS. The Ivory Elongated Pearl Box Clutch Bag is ideal whether you’re attending a wedding or looking for a pretty bag to wear to an occasion like I am. It is rectangular in shape with lots of ivory pearl beads on one side and a satin style fabric on the other with a diamante encrusted clasp on the top. This bag is absolutely ideal for me as I love the box clutch style but hate how they generally don’t fit a lot in whereas with this one, I can fit my money, phone, keys, lippy and compact easily inside.
My shoes are the Fresh Heart Peeptoe Flats by Melissa and I picked these up on sale at ASOS. I have loved the style of these shoes and similar ones from the Melissa shoes line for a long time however I have always been wary of ordering them for fear that my feat would sweat in them. However I have worn them several times this year and haven’t experienced anything of the sort. They’re incredibly comfortable too, I’m impressed and will definitely purchase other styles in the future, especially if they’re on sale.
