You know that feeling when you put on a garment and you’re like WOW I’m in love, well thats exactly how I felt when I first put on the RI Plus Blue Trench Coat.
This is one of my favourite finds of this year so far and in fact, this whole outfit is. I wasn’t sure what to pair it with at first but when I found a couple of bits that I loved in Simply Be, I instantly knew that these pieces would all look great together.
The Blue Trench Coat is the first piece that immediately caught my eye when River Island launched their plus size line. I love absolutely everything about it from the light blue linen look fabric through to the turn up sleeves with the shiny silver buttons on.
Everything about it is perfect for me. Since I don’t like to wear coats fastened up as I find them too restrictive (unless its absolutely chucking it down outside of course), the open front of this coat is ideal for me and I like to tie the belt at the back which suits my style really well; its relaxed but still chic.
This coat is light weight and very comfortable to wear. The fit is true to size and the shape is very well cut. I’m very, very impressed with the sizing of the RI Plus line; I think they’ve got it spot on and I can tell that so much care and consideration went into designing the pieces for the plus size figure and ensuring that they were an accurate fit.
The fabric doesn’t crease easily which I was very pleasantly surprised about too. Out of all of the plus size Spring coats that I’ve seen, this is definitely my top pick.
I paired it with my new Simply Be Frill Top. This is a new style for me that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with. Its shaped like a vest, with a frilly bardot style over the top, across the bust, which is fabulous for me as off the shoulder styles tend to not remain off the shoulder for too long on my body whereas this top stays in place all day.
It is made of a light jersey material that is soft to the touch and it holds its black colour and shape very well after its been through the wash! The fit on this piece is generous and the material is stretchy.
When I first received the River Island coat, I had imagined that it would look superb with some white jeggings, having been inspired by their styling on their website. I looked in a couple of different shops but couldn’t find any white jeggings or jeans, then came across these on a sale rack in Simply Be. They only had a small number of sizes and they were reduce to £12.60 a pair. I tried on my usual size and found that they were so incredibly small, I couldn’t get them on and had to size up loads to the ones I’m wearing here which are a little big on the legs, as all trousers usually are on me, but they fit perfectly on the waist.
Wearing a larger clothes size doesn’t bother me personally but it does annoy me as it could mean that the lovely ladies who are that size are then sized out of the jeggings because they wont fit, which is very irritating. After trying out this pair and really enjoying the effect, I’ve since bought these white jeggings from Evans in my usual size and they fit far better.
Regardless, I absolutely love this outfit and think that these pieces look fantastic together. I added my Primark flatforms for more of a summer evening, drinks with the girls kind of look but I’ve also worn this outfit with flat sandals and my Michael Kors flats from House of Fraser. For a more relaxed look, I think this outfit would pair so well with some comfy and versatile loafers available with free shipping from MyLoafers.
If you haven’t checked out the River Island plus size clothing line then I highly suggest you do, its absolutely amazing! I’ve linked the coat below along with the same or similar items that I’m wearing here and some alternatives.
