For as long as I can remember, I have always been a skincare junkie. I’m a firm believer that if you take care of your skin then you can spend less money and less time on your make up. I have tried a lot of skincare over the years so I know what I like and what I don’t and it takes something pretty special to wow me- that is exactly what happened when I tried Sothys.
I’ve been using Sothys since the end of the summer and whilst I instantly loved the products, I really wanted to give them a thorough road test before reviewing them as its always difficult to see how your skin fares when you’re trying something on the cusp of the changing seasons. I was originally gifted the same products as these but I think the tell tale sign of how much I like them is that these are actually the bottles that I’ve repurchased.
Sothys Purity Cleansing Milk
Sothys Paris are a French beauty brand that are relatively new to the UK. With more than 60 years in the business, they have become renowned for their trusted expertise and advanced skincare. Available in over 20,000 professional spas in over 115 countries all over the world, I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of Sothys before however over the course of the time that I’ve been using this skincare duo, I have heard more and more about them.
French skincare is big business in my book- I’ve tried lots of different brands and the products have all been brilliant but Sothys is the best French skincare brand I’ve tried so far.
The two products I’ve been using are the Purity Cleansing Milk and the Purity Lotion. Essentially these are the cleanse and tone step to your skincare routine. Sothys recommend skincare products depending on the type of skin that you have. Mine is oily and therefore these two products are the ones that are formulated to be the most effective with my skin, and they certainly are effective. These first steps in your skincare routine are designed to prepare your skin for the treatment and hydrating products that you’re going to put on it. By eliminating the dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface of the epidermis, the skin is left ready to absorb the products you then put on it which is why it is really important to use products that are designed for your skin type so that your skin is getting all of the ingredients that it needs and doesn’t get clogged up with things it doesn’t.
My morning cleanse using the Purity Cleansing Milk
The Purity Cleansing Milk is the stand out product of this duo for me. It can be used in two ways, either applied to the face using the fingertips and then removed with a cotton wool pad, which I don’t find particularly effective compared to other cleansers I’ve used, or it can be rinsed off with warm water, which I find an amazing way to use this cleanser. I actually didn’t realise that you could use the product in this way as I was just using it on a cotton pad until one night I came home late and I was so tired, I just wanted my make up off an to get into bed. This was the only cleanser in my bathroom and I couldn’t be bothered to go and get another so I massaged around three pumps of product into my skin and over my eyes and lashes while the hot tap was running. I popped my face cloth under the water, wrung it out and took the cleanser off using the cloth. I blearily looked in the mirror and was genuinely shocked at what I saw- a make up free face. From that point on, it was love.
Purity Cleansing Milk used all over my face and eye area to wake me up!
The Purity Cleansing Milk removes all of my make up, even stubborn mascara like the Clinique High Impact mascara (buy here) which I was so surprised at as the milk is so light weight and not oily in the slightest. It is literally unbelievable how good this cleanser is at cleansing my skin. I usually do a double cleanse but I don’t have to with this cleanser if I don’t want to. It is ridiculously gentle, it doesn’t irritate my skin and it doesn’t sting my eyes whatsoever. It has a light scent to it that I can’t quite define- slightly floral and slightly powdery, definitely non offensive and it doesn’t irritate my skin. I always expect products used in spas to smell very herbal but these don’t at all which is great as they aren’t my favourite scent. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and moisturised, not squeaky clean and dry, it is PERFECT for oily skin types. In fact, it actually feels really moisturising as you’re applying it, like you’re putting moisturiser on your face rather than cleanser.
Soak a towel in warm water, wring out then use to take off your cleanser
When you wash it off this cleanser doesn’t leave a residue or a film on the skin either which is what I’ve found with other more moisturising cleansers that are formulated for oily skin like the Clarins Cleansing Milk (buy here). I feel as though this cleanser really balances my skin which may be thanks to the camphor that it contains as camphor is supposed to help to control excess sebum whilst having antiseptic and astringent properties. I think I like it so much because it so accurately formulated for my oily skin- I haven’t used another cleanser as effective as this one.
I have been using the Purity Cleansing Milk every morning to freshen up my face and each night to take my make up off and clean my face. After I’ve used it I move onto the Purifying Lotion which is again, formulated for oily skin.
The Purifying Lotion is pH balanced to clear and purify the complexion by getting rid of excess dirt and impurities. I give the bottle a shake then apply the it by putting a little on a cotton pad and sweeping it across my face, paying particular attention to my most oily areas- my forehead, nose, cheeks and chin… oh ok then, my whole face!
What I love the most about this toner is that it is alcohol and fragrance free so it doesn’t strip the skin, leave it feeling tight. It removes excess oil, helps to tighten pores and acts as an antiseptic to help with break outs, leaving my skin looking healthy and clear. The cleanser and toner together work a treat.
The result- clean happy skin!
