It’s such a relief to have some nice weather again after a rubbish winter. Let the sunshine into your home by freshening up your interiors. Whether you are updating your property for an upcoming sale or simply in the mood for a change here are a few handy summer design tips:
De-Clutter, Be Brutal
Now that the days are becoming longer and everybody is a bit more calm and relaxed it’s time to throw out any stuff that’s been hanging around your house for too long. A general rule of thumb is if you haven’t used it for six months think about getting rid of it. Free up extra space in your rooms and in yourself by bagging up your clutter and taking it to the dump.
Get Yourself a Trendy Vase
Incorporating fresh flowers into your décor is a great way of letting fair weather into your home all year round. As the summer months approach you will have an amazing choice of flowers to choose from – show them off in a quirky vase. Find something around your house that you can repurpose or spend a fun day browsing antique and charity shops for curious containers.
Brighten Your Bedroom
A few simple changes can make your bedroom fit for summer. Swap any heavy winter fabrics for breezy white bed covers. Floral throws and pillows will add a splash of colour. Try jazzing up your bedside tables with a bit of sparkly spray paint – or even ditching the regular table altogether and constructing something yourself! Another lovely idea for the bedroom is to wallpaper the inside of your closet with a fun and bright design.
Create a Lantern
Take a bamboo birdcage and rig it up with some LED lights, spray paint it white and hey presto you have a beautiful lantern. You can also create a lantern with a big glass bell jar by gathering up some old fairy lights and dropping them inside. Little flashes of design like this will bring a light-hearted dimension to your interiors.
One Item Can Make All The Difference
Take a good look around the room or rooms you’re thinking about changing and try to spot any tired objects. Sometimes all it takes is to remove or renew one or two things. It might be a scruffy lamp, a battered old table or a dodgy set of curtains that’s all up in your feng shui. Have a look online for a funky replacement or pop to your local Tesco if you just can’t wait that long.
Enjoy your summer!
