It is now easier than ever to get the kitchen of your dreams without splurging on a remodel. While we all may have a magical vision of our dream kitchen in our head or on our Pinterest board or saved on Instagram, a full-scale renovation may not be on the budget currently. But that does not mean there is nothing you can do. There are a few easy ways to update your kitchen without kitchen remodelling

Clean The Kitchen

Before you update anything, break out the disinfectants and the mops as it is time to clean your kitchen as if there is no tomorrow. After a thorough scrub, you can see the main problem areas and things you want to work on.

Update Your Refrigerator

Every refrigerator needs a bit of TLC; this could mean getting a replacement drawer for your refrigerator, giving it an excellent clean and replacing any water filters. If your freezer is attached to the refrigerator, then defrost your freezer. Your kitchen will feel better instantly.

Paint the Cabinets

A lick of paint is always an ideal activity for any renovation without a renovation. It can give an instant uplift to any space, so with a kitchen, why not paint your cabinets? It can be quite a bit of work, but it is an incredibly affordable way to update your area, and you also save extra money by doing it yourself.

Paint the Walls

While you are at it, why not paint the walls? Punch up your kitchen by adding a new colour to the walls. Make sure it is a colour that compliments any compartments and your cabinets.

New Light Fixtures

Light fixtures can make or break a kitchen. For example, a dim yellow light will illuminate the grease stains on the wall behind your stove. On the other hand, curtains in a kitchen can darken the room and lower the mood. Compare that to bright kitchens on television; light makes a space inviting, highlights complimentary details, brings warmth and creates a friendly atmosphere. Upgrading the lighting can require an electrician, but it can be so worth it. Whether or not you go for something simple like a pendant light with a bulb that emits warm tones, any minor changes can make a big difference.

Switch Out Cabinet Hardware

Update your kitchen for just a tiny amount and change the look of outdated cabinets easily by changing the handles. Match the metal to the light fixtures and sink tape for a cohesive look. Some handles or drawers can give either a classic farmhouse kitchen look or be more sophisticated and modern. Circular knobs can keep the cabinets functional and pristine.

Hang Artwork on Kitchen walls

While the kitchen is not the most obvious room to display an art collection, you should take advantage of the space. Carve out a view of vintage landscapes and antique portraits, or go more electric with modern and bright pieces. The possibilities are endless.

Layer in Texture

You can warm up a white kitchen with wooden countertops and floors, but a less expensive solution would be to interweave different textures such as baskets, hats and marker bags. Even a piece of fabric can be used to add softness.

Visually Open The Space

Removing some upper cabinetry can transform your kitchen, making it feel lighter, more modern and perhaps even more functional. Open shelving is a great way to display everyday dishes or cookbooks, serving platters and herbs. Of course, you could remove the upper cabinets altogether and replace them with open floating shelves or remove the doors from the upper cabinets.

Add a Backsplash

Adding a backsplash is a great idea to modernise your kitchen, even if it’s simply adding white subway tiles with old oak cabinets. But, for something more eccentric, why not go for patterned ceramic tiles or stunning cut to size copper aluminium splashbacks to really make it a feature.

Use Chalkboard Paint

Get creative and give your kitchen personality by creating a feature wall using chalkboard paint. A simple wall of black paint, specifically designed to be drawn on with chalk, is a great way to add a personal touch to your kitchen space.

Not only does it give kids the perfect place to entertain themselves, still within view while you tend to jobs in the kitchen – it also creates an ideal family planner.

There are so many ways to update your kitchen that cannot be listed here, the list is endless, but they can incorporate elements of your personality and your lifestyle to give the kitchen a breath of fresh air without breaking the bank.
