WhatLauraWore: Loving Skater Dresses

In today’s outfit post I’m wearing the Cut Out Detail Skater Dress from Simply Be.  This is a gorgeous dress that is perfect for the winter months.  It is a bold pink dress with a black animal jacquard print all over it.  The material feels thick and heavy so it is a great addition to an autumn winter wardrobe although it is very short so leggings or thick black tights may be best worn with this dress, particularly on very cold nights out.  The dress has a cut out detail to the front of it that really emphasises the bust and looks fun, flirty and sexy.  The overall cut of the dress is skater style so it will fit and flatter many shapes and sizes.

When looking at the photos taken in this dress it got me thinking about just how much I love skater dresses.  The cut is just perfect for my shape as it is on so many others, so I’ve been scouring the internet to find my best skater dress picks for the coming season for all shapes and sizes.

The first dress I was instantly drawn to when looking for skater dresses online was the Forever Unique Bonny Embellished Dress from Very (number 1 in the picture).  This dress is PERFECT for a party or an extra special night out.  It is available in sizes 8 through to 16 and I think it would be so beautiful on a true girlie girl.  The cut of the dress is such that it would create curves on those without a defined shape and it would flatter those with a larger tummy as it will skim over that particular area.  The only trouble is that it is £220 which is a lot of money for such a statement dress that you may only get one wear out of.

If you’re not looking to splash that much cash or if you’re just looking for an ultra stylish but affordable option, then there are some cheap skater dresses from Mary Jane Fashion that look equally as on trend but don’t cost nearly as much.  This Gold Sequin Chiffon Dress (number 2 in the picture) really epitomises Christmas party dressing for me as it mixes the sparkle of sequins with the classic air of an LBD.  It is available in sizes 8 to 14 and for only £21.99 this is a much more affordable option and would mean that you could choose several outfits to wear across the party season, rather than forking out a lot of money on just one!  They have some cute, skater skirts too including a gorgeous red tartan skater skirt that is so much cheaper that the ones I’ve seen on the Topshop website but just as gorgeous.

Of course I couldn’t talk about skater dresses without mentioning the dress that I’m currently lusting after from the Little Mistress Curvy line at ASOS.  The Plunge Skater Dress (number 3 in the picture) is available in sizes 18 to 24 and would look absolutely gorgeous on a fuller figured girl at a party.  I love the bust is softly pleated and adorned with embellishments.  For £60 it is a pricey option but I think it would be great for a special occasion or for that Christmas party that you really want to dress to impress at.

The final skater dress that I have picked out is the Lace Waist Skater Dress from AX Paris which is £40 (number 4 in the picture).  This is available in sizes 16 to 26 and in red, purple and black.  The former two are my favourite as jewel colours are always big at Christmas and the waist panel detailing in the middle really helps to add definition to the waist.  I’ll definitely be giving it a try on the next time I place an order online!

You look fantastic! I bought this dress a few weeks ago for a girlie weekend, and also wore it to my sister's birthday party. Totally agree with you, I felt so good in this dress – it really is a little sexy and a lot flirty. I can't remember the last time I had so many compliments about an outfit! I'm a bottom heavy pear shape, and I don't have your lovely legs, so I wore some magisculpt leggings, but I still felt a million dollars. Thank you for the other recommendations 🙂 x

You look stunning Laura and the dress is gorgeous, I am loving the cut-out detail. Your legs are looking mighty fine, swap them for my tree trunks? Hahaha. The Little Mistress skater dress is a favourite of mine, it has been floating a round in my cyber basket for a little while now xxxBarbie Sparkles | UK Beauty Blog

I wasn't sure I liked all of the chest cut-out dresses, but seeing one on you, it's really interesting how it draws the eye to the center and up to your face. I'm always self-conscious about sleeveless dresses with my broad shoulders and heavy arms, but the cut-out seems to draw the eye away from those areas and focus on the decolletage and face. The dress is a great shape for you and really emphasizes your curves. Super cute!
