My favourite new plus size launch of recent months has to be from Missguided. They’ve blown every other new plus size range out of the water with their edgy, on trend styles that are totally reminiscent of their standard line. They have completely blurred the divide between plus size clothing and standard size and every piece that I have from them my smaller friends love and would wear themselves.
The dress that I’m wearing here is the Plus Size Monochrome Check Print Skater Dress from Missguided and I am absolutely in love with it. This style works fabulously dressed down with some leggings and boots during the day but I can easily pop a blazer on with it for a work event or some heels for a night out.
The monochrome colour palette of this dress is so easy to wear and it means that you can pair a multitude of different colours and accessories with it. The black and white check print has a texture to it which feels and looks lovely when it is on as it adds a bit of interest to the dress.
Skater dresses are my favourite shape of garment to wear as they’re so flattering, comfortable and easy to wear. This one is very much a pull on and look effortlessly stylish number which enables me to get ready quickly in the morning! The top part of the dress is fitted until the waist where it begins to edge out and fall in that typical skater dress shape that I love.
Like with the stunning burgundy dress that I wore in this post, this dress is available in sizes 16 to 24 and the sizing is true to size and actually quite generous, with plenty of room in the bust, even though it is quite fitted up top.
The one thing that I will note however is that the sleeves do seem to be disproportionately smaller on this dress compared to the sizing of the rest of the dress. While the sleeves are supposed to be fitted and I’ve never struggled with anything on my arms as they’re quite small compared to my dress size, I do feel as though the arms are overly small on this dress and they feel a little snug. Not uncomfortable my any means but I do notice the fit when putting it on so that may be something to bare in mind when ordering depending on your shape.
What I love the most about this Missguided dress and they others I’ve tried is that they get the length bang on every single time. There’s so many times that I’ve tried on dresses and while they fit perfectly, on a plus size frame they’re far too short. Often a large tummy, bum or bust can really force items upwards and something that is meant to be worn just above the knee ends up being more like a bottom grazer. Are you with me girls?! Well you simply do not have this problem with Missguided dresses as the length on them is spot on, this one comes to just above the knee, as intended. For this reason, I couldn’t recommend it enough!
The way that I have styled this dress here is actually for a girls lunch and I had to take the photos super quickly this afternoon before rushing out to meet them.
One of my friends is celebrating her birthday at the weekend but as most of us are busy with Valentines celebrations, she brought her birthday forward and decided to go out for afternoon tea at a country house hotel near to where we live.
I wanted to wear something feminine and girlie, slightly dressy hence the heels but still daytime appropriate which is why I added my favourite burgundy floppy hat from ASOS.
The gorgeous clutch bag that I’m carrying is from Curvissa and it matches the colour of my hat so well. The Ostrich Textured Bag is so reminiscent of some of the ostrich textures that Mulberry do on their leather but for a tiny fraction of the price. I’d been looking for a burgundy coloured bag for so long as the wine hue is one that I’ve been wearing a lot this winter so when Curvissa asked if I’d like to style it up as part of a challenge with five other bloggers, I jumped at the chance.
When it comes to packing my clutch for a day or night out, I keep things simple but like to carry all of my essentials with me. This one fits everything that I need inside it- my phone, card holder, key holder, lippy, perfume and powder compact. I love the way that this clutch has an envelope opening and the gold clasp is a really nice detailed touch as well as a secure way to keep my essentials inside. It also comes with a gold chain so it can be worn over the shoulder or across the body too.
The other bloggers taking part in the five way are my favourite brummy beauty Naomi as well as the lovely Rosie, Becky and Felicity so you can head on over to their blogs to see how they have styled up this clutch.
Since I opted to pair burgundy accessories with this monochrome dress, I decided to try out my new lippy from Makeup Revolution. The Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer in Rebel is such a gorgeous colour and matches my outfit perfectly. Check back next week for a review of this lippy.
