WhatLauraWore: A* Student

When I first saw this t shirt on the AX Paris website, I knew it would be perfect to include in a casual WhatLauraWore outfit post as a bit of school style inspiration.  I know that many of you will have gone back to school, college and university recently and I always remember the first term to be a very daunting experience, juggling what to wear with making friends, going out and of course, all of the new information you’re learning.

Whilst, admittedly, it has been a long time since I walked a school corridor, I wanted to give you a bit of outfit inspiration and some tips on how to dress for university.  Looking back on my time studying for my degree, I remember my most productive times were when I felt comfortable and whilst I’m possibly going against everything you think of when you think of WhatLauraLoves, I don’t actually believe that school and university is a fashion show.  That being said, you can still look put together.

To me, dressing for a typical day at college should be about being comfortable, tidy and presentable, so that the focus is on what you’re learning as opposed to what you’re wearing.  I wouldn’t advise getting dressed up or wearing anything that needs too much thought or maintenance, just choose simple items that go together, feel comfortable and look put together.

Back when I was at university, I loved wearing slouchy trousers.  These are harem pants from Next and I have them in black, navy and white.  They’re made from a super soft jersey that feels light weight but keeps me warm so they can be worn all year round.  They have an elasticated waist band making them easy to wear as they don’t dig in to your sides and they are tapered so they are ideal to tuck into boots but look equally as good with ballet flats or little pumps like the grey ones I’m wearing here from Primark.

To match the grey pumps, I’m wearing the A Star Student Tee from AX Paris.  This is a slouchy, oversized t shirt that is super soft grey tee with a bold white print.  AX Paris are doing oversized t-shirts so well lately, I love the gold and black one that I wore in this post.  This one would look great with a  skater skirt, jeans, leggings or shorts.  Oh and a boring point– these wash really well too which is important to me now that I have to do my own washing!!

For accessories, I’d suggest keeping it practical and necessary but that doesn’t mean ugly.  I’m wearing my new Skeleton Automatic Watch by Kenneth Cole that I got for my birthday off Mr WLL (I’ve had a few requests for a ‘What I Got For My Birthday’ post- is this something you’d want to see?) and I love it because the ceramic white strap goes really well with the white in my tee and pumps.  I’m also wearing my Dior specs that I got on prescription whilst at college, only to go for an eye test a few months ago to be told that I don’t need glasses at all.  Not sure how that works out but it’s money I’d love to have back… they are gorgeous though!

The bag I’m carrying is a big bucket shaped bag from Jack Wills that would fit all of your school essentials in.  Back when I was in school I remember carrying the tiniest handbag with my lipgloss, my only solitary pen, phone, purse and brush in thinking I was cool leaving the majority of books at home but by the time I got to uni, I grew up and realised that its better to carry a big bag with all of my school supplies in so that I was prepared for every lesson rather than just prepared to top up my lipgloss!  Ah hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Speaking of lipgloss, I think hair and make up is really down to the individual.  Throughout the latter days of school, all the way up to completing my degree, I generally always liked to have my hair and make up done and I would get it down to a fine art of looking put together, thought out but being able to apply it in a minimal amount of time.  Generally, I would like to wear my hair in a bed head, messy style or up in a top knot.  When I went to school, bun rings weren’t around but if I were to be going to school now then I’d definitely rock a bun ring like this one.  For make up, I would always opt for a long lasting base, a pink blush and lip and lashings of mascara… not much has changed then!
