Why Do We Love Italy So Much?

There are so many reasons why Italy constantly comes top in tourist destination hotspots. But what is it about this ancient European country that makes it so popular with locals and tourists alike?

The history

History played a key role in shaping the Italy we see today. Rome was the capital of the once mighty Roman Empire and continues to be the political centre of the country. And many of the Roman sights still stand guard in this ancient city of civilization.

Of course, the medieval cities of Milan, Venice, Genoa, and Sicily have also played a key-role in the country’s history and are home to some impressive cultural sites.

The scenery

Italy is known for its stunning landscape and picturesque surroundings, from golden beaches and azure seas, to rolling Tuscan hills and vineyards, to gargantuan lakes. Visitors are guaranteed to fall in love as soon as they arrive in this naturally beautiful part of the world – no matter where in Italy they visit. And if it’s good enough for George Clooney, the scenery must be something special!

The architecture

From the Trevi Fountain to the Colosseum, St. Mark’s Square to the Vatican City, Italy has no shortage of breathtaking architecture. Renowned the world over for their sheer size and majesty, it’s hard not to be in awe of Italian architecture and design. Whether you go on an Italy group tour or you take a solo trip, you’ll discover beautiful architecture on every corner.

The food

Pizza, pasta, and ice cream is all you need to know! Italian cuisine is fresh, colourful, delicious, flavoursome, and filled with Italian passion. Whether you’re enjoying a wood-fired pizza in Naples, enjoying a fresh pasta dish whilst sipping some fine Italian wine, or strolling through Venice with an oversized gelato, whatever food you choose, it’s sure to the best you’ve ever tasted.

The great thing about Italian cuisine is that every region has their own distinct flavours while still maintaining the same Italian character.

The weather

If you’re after hot summers and mild winters, Italy is the country for you. The weather rarely disappoints, and while the climate varies region to region, the summer months are guaranteed to be hot and sunny making al fresco dining in the late evening just magical. And if you needed any more persuading, the BBC’s Normal People effortlessly demonstrated the deliciously languorous weather.

The family values

Italy is known for its great matriarchs, and the Mediterranean is especially known for holding family values as a priority. No matter where you go in Italy, you’ll find generations of families enjoying themselves.

Everything is catered towards making fabulous family memories – the more raucous the better!
