Why Light-Filled Spaces Feel So Good

Why is it that when you walk into a space that’s totally flooded with sunlight, you just feel better right away? It’s not even your imagination – it’s a real thing that happens. There’s something so uplifting about natural light, and the way it can transform a room has more impact than we often realise. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more about why light-filled spaces feel so good.

The Emotional Lift

Human beings are actually hardwired to respond to natural light – it sets our body clocks, boosts our energy, and it’s even been shown to improve mood and, fantastically, productivity too. So that warm patch of sun on the floor isn’t just pleasant – it can actually help regulate serotonin and melatonin levels in your body, and that’s what plays a major part in how we sleep and feel.

That means that when a room lets plenty of daylight in, it’s not just lovely and beautiful, it’s working with your own self to help you feel a lot more balanced and happy. What could be wrong with that?

You’ll Have More Space

Light has a way of making everything feel a lot more spacious, so even in a small flat or a hallway, for example, the right amount of daylight can open everything up, and even if it’s not technically any bigger, it’ll feel like it is, and that can be enough to help you feel calm and relaxed and less shut in.

And what’s even better is that when a space is light and bright and doesn’t feel cluttered and closed in, you’ll want to spend more time there, and that’s always a good thing that’s going to make your home feel like a sanctuary rather than just somewhere you sometimes have to be.

You’re Connected To The Outside

When your home allows more natural light in, you’ll be a lot more connected to the outside world – sometimes literally. And having that sense of connection is really important, because again, it’s something that can make you feel at peace and less stressed. So if you’re coming home and want to unwind, the more of the outside you can see even when you’re inside, the better.

Some people find that installing a classic conservatory is the best way to really maximise their view to the outside world, and if you’ve got the space for one, it’s a great idea. Not only will you get more sunlight, but you’re gaining an entire new room, which is sure to be useful. If that’s not possible, a large bay window or a skylight could definitely help.

It Can Set The Mood

Bright rooms look nice, of course, that’s a given, but on top of that they feel right, and natural sunlight can make even the most mundane of everyday activities feel like a treat – just think of the difference between enjoying your morning coffee by a large, bright window, and sipping it in a dark room with hardly any light.

So if you want to make sure you’re taking care of your overall wellbeing and that you can make the most of your home, it’s wise to let as much sunlight in as you can.
